Geoffrey HARCOURT (b. London 1935) Pair of armchairs and ottoman model F140 circa 1970 for Artifort (label). Brown leather upholstered seat and back, white plastic tulip base. H. : 83 W. : 70 D. 45 cm (the armchairs) and H. 38 W. 56 D. 48 cm (the ottomans) one armrest to be reattached Geoffrey David Harcourt trained at London's Royal College of Art. In 1962, he created his first series of office chairs for Artifort. His designs enabled Artifort to penetrate the international project furnishing market. Harcourt begins by designing chairs for reception areas. His second design for Artifort, the 042 series in 1963, was an immediate international success. Harcourt's philosophy is that the chair should turn towards man, not the other way round. "First the man, then the chair". Harcourt has won numerous awards, including "Royal Designer for Industry" in 1978.
